Gate Installation

The SLIPFENCE is specifically designed for homeowners who want a warm and private wood fence, with the Stability and Endurance of an Aluminum Fence... AND... Simple to install.

1

Cut 2 pcs. of  2 x 4 lumber the width that you would like to make your gate. This is your top and bottom rails of your gate frame.

2

For Vertical Gate: Cut 2 more pcs. of 2 x 4 lumber 48” each.

For Horizontal Gate: Cut 2 more pcs. of 2x4 lumber 59” each. These are the side rails of your gate frame.

3

Place the sides of the gate frame inside the top and bottom rails and attach 4 corner brackets inside of frame and 2 corner brackets on the outside of frame on the hinge side to keep frame square. Use all screw holes if possible for a tight fit. Make sure to leave 8-10 wood screws to attach hinges later.

4

Attach Hinges to wood frame butted up against the outside corner brackets so no measuring is required for even hinge distance from top and bottom of frame. Use extra wood screws in bracket kits to attach hinges to wood frame. Make sure that the cap on the hinge barrel for tension adjustment is “UP” when gate is hung. Hinge Barrels will be on the inside of gate when completed.

5

A Cross Brace is recommended for gates 40” and wider and all Horizontal Gates. To create a diagonal cross brace for added stability, lay another piece of 2x4 lumber underneath the frame diagonally between the bottom hinge side corner to the top Latch side corner for strength and to prevent sagging in the finished gate and pencil cut marks on the 2x4 and cut so it fits.

6

For Vertical Gate: Align the center of the top gate frame rail with the center of the top stringer in your fence line and attach Gate frame to Post with self -drilling screws supplied in Hinge package.

For Horizontal Gate: Align the top Gate frame Rail2.75” below the top of the top board of your fence line, and attach frame to gate with self drilling screws supplied.

7

Make sure gate frame is level and plum before adding fence boards.

8

For Vertical Gate: Clad front and back of gate in the same shadowbox pattern as the rest of the fence with 2” deck screws not included, leaving approximately 2” between boards.

For Horizontal Gate: Cut 13 boards to the desired width of the finished gate, start at the top board leveling it with the top board of the Fence line board and fasten with 2” deck screws (not included), to the frame from the inside so no screw heads are seen from the outside.

9

Attach gate latch using latch instructions provided.

10

For Vertical Gate:

Attach Stringer straps to top and bottom of gate, at stringer level with screws provided to emulate stringers.

For Horizontal Gate:

Attach rubber straps to left and right edges of gate with screws provided to emulate the channels of the Horizontal fence and close gap between post and gate if necessary for a nice clean finished look.
